The Foundation Stage Curriculum

The curriculum in the Foundation classes aims to: 

• ensure a sensitive transition from home/pre-school/nursery to school

• provide a strong sense of security based on contentment and trust

• encourage a sense of self-confidence, achievement and self-esteem

• promote positive attitudes to school and learning

• give the child opportunities to interact with his/her peer group and with adults

• encourage independence and a sense of responsibility

 

   • develop spatial awareness, manipulation skills and hand/eye co-ordination

• stimulate creative thinking

• encourage communication skills through all forms of artistic expression

• develop language and reasoning skills

• ensure participation in activities to gain control over his/her body

• foster the child’s spiritual and moral growth

• enable the child to gain a sense of social awareness and knowledge relating to his/her world

 The Six Areas of Learning

The two classes follow the Curriculum Guidance for the Foundation Stage devised by the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority. The Foundation Stage commences at age three and completes at the end of the Reception year. The Foundation Stage Curriculum encompasses six areas of learning:

 • Personal, Social and Emotional Development

• Communication, Language and Literacy

• Mathematical Development

• Knowledge and Understanding of the World

• Creative Development

• Physical Development

 The children are assessed regularly in these curriculum areas.

 

 

 

 

We play games in our outdoor area.

 

We like to be creative with 'junk'!

We make shapes with playdough.

We play outside in the sand.
