  • At Godmanchester Community Primary School we have found the A.R. system to be very effective at motivating children to read and at providing a detailed diagnostic record of their performance. The majority of children enjoy using it and respond to the challenge that it presents them with
  • AR is geared towards encouraging independent readers where children are able to make their own choice of books and can read and comprehend for themselves.
  • Children will need to read out loud and be listened to every day and we recommend that approximately 15-20 minutes of reading be completed at home each evening. As the children read it is a good idea to question them about the text to ensure good understanding and hopefully success when they get to the computer. Children will need to bring their book into school every day so that the reading can be continued and tests taken

  • The A.R. system differs substantially from the reading system used in KS1 and new year 3 children come into contact with the AR for the first time.
  • We have created a booklet for parents that will hopefully explain more about Accelerated Reader and some of the newer features available through Renaissance Place.

  • With over 12,000 quizzes on our A.R. system there is a large range of books to choose from!
  • A lot of our pupils like to read books from home and and we encourage this. However we do ask that a check is made to see if the book is on the AR system first. This check could be made on an AR computer at school or alternatively  you could visit the site:

Godmanchester Community Primary is a Reading Connects school

The STAR test is our starting point for the AR system. It gauges a child's independent reading level.

Tops reports (Three opportunities to praise) print out after a child has taken an AR test. They can look a little confusing. Hopefully the image below will help.
